Physical Therapy is a rehabilitation specialty provided by a licensed individual. The PT focuses on helping the patient to regain functional abilities including walking, getting in/out of bed, transfers, strength, balance, gross motor skills, endurance and improve safety skills. PT also may address pain issues that limit the patient's function.
Occupational Therapy is a rehabilitation therapy that emphasizes a patient's activities of daily living using real-life activities to help patients of all ages prevent, lessen or overcome physical disabilities. OT's also work with upper extremity dysfunction.
Speech therapy is the treatment of speech and communication disorders including physical exercises to strengthen the muscles used in speech (oral-motor work), speech drills to improve clarity, or sound production practice to improve articulation. Speech therapy can also include techniques related to helping patients with difficulty in swallowing.
Gerontological Social Workers serve as advocates for elderly individuals, helping to ensure they receive the mental, emotional, social, and familial support they need, while also connecting them to resources in the community that can provide additional support. They also help their clients manage challenges by providing counseling and therapy, advising clients’ families about how to best support aging loved ones, serving as the bridge of communication between clients and the rest of the care team, and ensuring that clients receive the services they need.
Anodyne therapy is a non-invasive, drug-free device that delivers Monochromatic Infrared Energy through infrared light-emitting diodes that are mounted in flexible therapy pads. When the pads are places in direct contact with the skin, the invisible infrared light, is absorbed by cells in the body and blood vessels begin to dilate, resulting in increased circulation in that area.
Ultrasound therapy is a thermal modality used by physical and occupational therapists to help reduce pain and increase function caused by various diseases and conditions.
Massage is used by physical and occupational therapists to reduce muscle tightness and spasming to increase function and reduce pain caused by various diseases and conditions.
